But I forgot. Sorry, sorry, sorry!   — Andrée

Prompts

Hello, Friends!

Again, we're asking for some new prompts to get us into the summertime!  Please leave your suggestion and the link to the blog where you post your poems in the comments!  Thank you.

Prompt 219: Depression

Harshad Mehta of Space Within brings us this week's prompt, depression. Here is his thought-provoking poem:

Nothing inspire
Day is harsh
Colors of sunset gloomy
Thought of dark night scary

Miserable is my spirit
Prayers selfish
Smiles heavy
My utterances are complains
Compliments hollow
Even blessings demanding

Heart far away to be loved
And too selfish to love
Though surrounded by many
Lost in world another

Awareness that
You are always there
Lost in this black hole,
No light on other end

Faith shaky, Truth hazy
Denial deep, Options ill
Life a burden

Is death freedom?

Prompt 218: Elusive

Thanks to Karen of Something Written  for this week's prompt, elusive.

hidden in shadows
elusive truths lie in wait
on the quest for light

on the quest for light
paths to follow may deceive.
wrinkles in the soul

wrinkles in the soul
smoothed by promise of belief
hidden in shadows

Prompt 216: Shells

From April 14, 2012

Shells, this week's prompt comes from Sandy Carlson of Writing in Faith.

Here is the meaning of the word by way of the Online Etymology Dictionary:
O.E. sciell, scill, Anglian scell "seashell, eggshell," related to O.E. scealu "shell, husk," from P.Gmc. *skaljo "divide, separate" (cf. W.Fris. skyl "peel, rind," M.L.G. schelle "pod, rind, egg shell," Goth. skalja "tile"), with the notion of "covering that splits off," from PIE root *(s)kel- "to cut, cleave" (cf. O.C.S. skolika"shell," Rus. skala "bark").

Sense of "mere exterior" is from 1650s; that of "hollow framework" is from 1791. Meaning "structure for a band or orchestra" is attested from 1938. Militaryuse (1640s) was first of hand grenades, in reference to the metal case in which the gunpowder and shot were mixed; shell shock first recorded 1915. Shell game"a swindle" is from 1890, from a version of three-card monte played with a pea and walnut shells.

Prompt 215: Wassail

Wassail is our prompt, thanks to Gyanban, who shares with us this wonderful poem:

A winged horse stunning white,
Watchful eyes glare under the shadowing hood
The dark feather blends in the night.
Flying hands and braclet wood,
The magic conjured is never unerstood.

And as fortunes are told
Love is not weighed in gold
Hope inside a rock gilded,
Her eyes witness spiraling stories,
Wind carries the nomad memories.

Moonlit woods and a crimson fire,
Rocking lanterns and a serendiptous lair,
The dancing flames and a mystical glare
Reality suspended and dreams revel
A wasaail candle and the lurking devil.

Gyanban Thoughts -  One of the meanings of Wassail is liquor for drinking and wishing health to others on festive occasions, especially spiced ale,as on Christmas Eve and Twelfth-night.I took this prompt and tried using it in a different mystical setting leaving reality behind.A secret lair lying hidden in some corner and a magical world lives there. There is an element of love and fortune introduced in the second part, this is narrated by the gypsy woman. Finally the poem ends with a surreal devil lurking in a corner, waiting, perhaps attracting the moth to the candle.

Prompt 209: Muse

I Rhyme Without Reason blogger Leo's prompt, muse, is up this week. Here is his poem:

What has befallen me?
I continue to struggle
to put heart on paper
when its rivers, flooding
break dams and flow
in unconquerable anger
in unquenchable thirst
become one with me
where the soul lives
Muse, fairest maiden
be kind to my longing
for my words do feel
dead, unseen by all
like the stillborn child
till you, lady of magic
get them alive again
and with them, me
for, I, do live in words

Prompt 208: Elemental

Pam of Amputated Moon brings us elemental as this week's prompt. Thanks, Pam, for the image and poem.

Elemental.jpg

Here is the Wind

here is the wind
rising from nothing
no birthplace or home
a nomad

alas—I cry
as it gathers its breath
the world and I
wait

and it pushes down
from the mountain top
through canyons and valleys
sounding its warning

cry out—I say
tell me where you go
I see trees fall
and waters part

still it rushes on
scouring brick
and stone
with a secret

held within
until the wind and I
join and rising
going nowhere

going somewhere
finding nothing
finding everything
stripped down

laid open
raw---
elemental

Pamela Olson, 2/17/12
